Gabriel Kikodze and Dimitri Uznadze’s General Pedagogical Concept

Abstract

          Every nation has a "mould" that forms its characteristic personal values ​​and behavioral models. Accordingly, both the structural energy field and the psychological context of their educational process are somewhat specific. The effectiveness of the endless reforms characteristic of the modern educational space necessarily requires deepening one's own worldview. An important aspect of the Georgian tradition of pedagogical thinking is the general pedagogical concept of Bishop Gabriel Kikodze and Dimitri Uznadze. They are based on both scientific (empirical, experimental statement) and metaphysical (inaccessible to cognition, obtained by intuition) methodology. Obviously, in different eras, the rational and ethical principles of development and education undergo changes in different intensities and directions, but their main basis and essence  - the movement of a person's physical-spiritual being from the bottom up - are unchanged. In relation to the latter, Bishop G. Kikodze and D. Uznadze's position implies recognition of human uniqueness. According to their position the individual approach is the best one to achieve appropriate results in educational activities. According to their pedagogical thinking it should be an attempt to organize the educational process in such a way that ensures a certain compatibility between the child's unique spiritual world and societal values.  Preparation for the future life must not sacrifice the teenagers’ "momentary" desires and aspirations. On the contrary, it should be more or less harmonious, against the background of individual and age characteristics.
