Demographic situation of Georgia in the conditions of co-epidemic and future prospects
Abstract
It should be noted that the demographic situation in Georgia has been deteriorating significantly since independence (1991). The country’s population has shrunk by almost 1.7 million people in the last 30 years. The current situation is further complicated by the negative processes caused by the world pandemic. The number of sick people has increased, unemployment has increased, the rate of economic growth has decreased. The death toll has risen. The current situation makes the future perspective vague.
In order to quickly change the current situation and start improving the demographic situation, it is necessary for the government, together with the Academy of Sciences, to develop an appropriate strategy. Hopefully, appropriate effective steps will be taken in this direction.
