Abstract
Recent economic events in the United States have left many questions unanswered, but everyone agrees that the events surrounding the subprime mortgage crisis are a classic example of why politics should not govern economic policy. The process of political violence against the economy is not new today, and certainly not in America. It dates back to ancient Rome and Greece, but the consequences that unwarranted political intervention in the economy can have are immeasurably greater and more alarming today.
